When looking at an old painting

Have you ever wondered who the people are in historic painting?

This is a famous painting of George Washington crossing the Delaware River in 1851.

Have you ever wondered who the other men in the image are? There are men rowing and others breaking up the ice. A man is holding the flag, and others are huddled in jackets. Several other boats are just behind Washington, carrying others.

One thing is for sure: every one of these men is someone’s son, potentially someone’s father, grandfather, uncle, etc.

Perhaps one is yours?

Any time you look at an old painting or drawing, think to yourself, this is someone’s family member. Could it be mine?
